Brodeaux needs a home!

Meet Brodeaux

Where dog is located now: CARA
Name: Brodeaux
Sex: Male
Age: 4 Years
Breed: Miniature Poodle
Color: Black
Size: Small
Neutered/Spayed: Yes
House Trained: Yes
Medical Information: Heartworm positive
Interaction with Kids: Older Children Only
Interaction with Dogs: Yes
Interaction with Cats: Yes
Ideal type of home: An experienced dog owner would be ideal, especially if you are familiar with Poodles. Poodles are very intelligent dogs and catch on very quickly. We also usually have a very strong drive to please our people, so some of my bad behavior should be easy to modify if you will be firm, but patient with me. A home with no or older children would be best.
Where I came from / How I came to the Shelter: My life started out lovingly ideal and then, things went out of my control from there. My first owner was an elderly lady who was my best friend. Unfortunately, when she had to go to a nursing home her family put me in a shelter. I was adopted by a Poodle breeder who then passed me a long to a family with small children. They were very nice people but they didn't know the proper way to ease an adult dog into an active home with small children.

My Story

My new family allowed their small, loud children to play too rough with me. They would frighten me and sometimes they unknowingly hurt me by playing too rough. The only way I knew how to defend myself was to snap at the children and for this reason I was taken to CARA. They also never had me groomed, so I don't look very pretty right now.

Now I am living in a very nice foster home with a nice lady, her husband, their baby and several other dogs. My foster mom, Kayla is also a groomer and she is looking forward to getting me back into shape. We are all getting along great and they always complement how I sit patiently and wait for treats, like a true gentleman. I am a good dog who has been conditioned to be bad to defend myself, however, Kayla and her family know that with a little work I will behave properly in my new home!
Note: CARA has very affordable options for heartworm treatment.

D.J. needs a home!

Meet D.J.

Where dog is located now: CARA
Name: D.J.
Sex: Male
Age: 6 Years
Breed: Shih Tzu
Color: Black & White
Size: Small
Neutered/Spayed: Yes
House Trained: Yes
Medical Information: Healthy
Interaction with Kids: Yes
Interaction with Dogs: Yes
Interaction with Cats: Yes
Ideal type of home: Any loving home where I can live indoors! Shih Tzu's have a typical life expectancy of 14-16 years, so I have a lot of life ahead of me!
Where I came from / How I came to the Shelter: My family lived in an apartment complex and the rules were that I had to potty on a leash. Well, I potty just fine off leash, but I had a hard time pottying on leash. Hectic lives also didn't leave a lot of time for walking the dog several times a day, so they brought me to CARA.

My Story

I am really quiet, and I love to be cuddled. I am truly a lap baby! If you are looking for a long-term companion who is already well-mannered, house trained and don't have any bad habits...I am your guy!

Bullet needs a home!

Meet Bullet

Where cat is located now: CARA
Name: Bullet
Sex: Male
Age: 1-2 Years
Breed: Domestic Short Hair
Color: Black
Size: Medium
Neutered/Spayed: Yes
House Trained: N/A
Medical Information: Healthy
Interaction with Kids: Not Recommended
Interaction with Dogs: Will adapt with appropriate acclimation period
Interaction with Cats: Will adapt with appropriate acclimation period
Ideal type of home: I would probably do best in a home with other animals because I may get bored easily. I love interacting and playing with other felines after we get used to each other.
Where I came from / How I came to the Shelter: I was brought in as a stray found along the side of the road.

My Story

Hi there! I came to the shelter as a little kitten but before I knew it, I got to be an adolescant kitty and no one really wanted to look at me anymore. Gosh, I have been at the shelter for such a long time. I just know that there is a special family who will visit me and realize that they can't live without me. I am extremely curious and playful. Since I am so very active, I would love to have another feline friend in my new home who likes to rumble and tumble as much as I do. The folks at the shelter say that I am a "Pistol", and somehow the name "Bullet" sort of stuck with me. My name sure fits my personality. I will not do well with small children because I like to play bite sometimes and tackle a human's ankle in hopes to instigate a moment of "play". I will need lots of toys in my new home.

Ideal type of home: I would love any home. I am a pretty easy going guy who loves everyone and I would REALLY love a nice yard to stretch my legs!
Where I came from / How I came to the Shelter: My owner moved and couldn't take me.

My Story

I have been at MARL since June 2009 and it may be possible that even though I am a VERY beautiful black Lab (appear to be full-blooded & possibly registered), I am falling victim to the "black dog syndrome" where folks just seem to walk right past us black dogs at the shelters. It is unfortunate because I have a lot of love to give and I am a really good dog! I love to learn and because of that I am easy to train. Please give me a chance, I know you will love me!
